A very early straight Herring wood carving tool – medium-deep gouge marked simply as ‘E Herring’
There is a small 20mm shrinkage crack running up from the ferrule, the tactile handle has lovely shape through much use over the years, the blade has a slight bend, sold as a collectable.
We believe this carving tool is probably by Edwin Herring though we are not 100%, it certainly looks and feels old
If it is Edwin Herring it is likely to age between 1850-1900.
A real tactile piece of history, waiting for someone to enjoy and find out more about its history.
Width: 4mm
Condition: there is a small 20mm shrinkage crack running up from the ferrule, the tactile handle has lovely shape through much use over the years, the blade has a slight bend, sold as a collectable., please see photos for condition.
